My first post . . .

Welcome to my first ever blog! Here at the very beginning of 2009 – the year in which I will start being able to ride Septa for free and getting medical care provided by government mandate. That’s right, I’m turning 65 in February, and officially beginning the next leg of this journey. So what better time to begin a new venture. I’m not really too sure what types of things I’ll be writing about, but we’ll see what, if anything develops.

I must start by thanking my friend and neighbor, Burnell Yow! (Note: the exclamation point is actually part of his name.) He’s an artist and computer whiz (by my standards at least) who has recreate my website. I really loved the one I had had for five years at least, as created beautifully by my daughter, Carrie – but it was getting out-dated. Burnell also convinced me to have him make me a Blog – so here it is. Thanks, Burnell.

The first thing I want to do is include below, a poster, recently posted in the elevators at The Sporting Club at the Bellevue, where I have a six month show of art throughout the public areas. The show will be hanging until April. All work is for sale with 25% of the proceeds going to charity. Hopefully, a changing art show will become a continuing occurrence at the club, since I have offered to ‘curate’ at least the next one, which will be a group show of member/artists.

Next I want to tout TwentyTwo Gallery at 236 South 22nd Street in my neighborhood, where I am now a member. Although you may have known of it as a coffee shop, it is now a cooperative gallery with between 15 and 20 local artists. Each of its members ‘gallery sits’ for one day per month. And the gallery has openings on the second Friday of each month. This month is the Members’ Show with several pieces by each artist on display. So here are three dates to remember:

• Friday, January 9, 6 to 9pm, opening reception

• Wednesday, January 14, I will be gallery sitting from 12 to 6pm – stop by to get a private tour, schmooze, (and keep me company), and

• Sunday, January 18, 2 to 5pm, Meet the Artists reception

Well, that wasn’t so bad, was it? If you’ve read to here, please feel free to stay in touch, and see what I’ve been up to with my painting or other ventures and hear about other matters which might be of interest. I’ll also let you know what this aging process is all about from my perspective.
